Bread And Butter Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 gal. cucumbers
    8 large onions, sliced
    1/2 c. salt
    5 c. sugar
    1 1/2 tsp. turmeric
    1/4 tsp. ground cloves
    2 Tbsp. white mustard seed
    1 1/2 tsp. celery seed
    2 c. vinegar
    1 c. water
Preparation
    Slice cucumbers and mix with sliced onions.
    Add salt.
    Mix good.
    Let stand 3 hours; drain.
    Make pickling syrup of remaining ingredients.
    Have this hot.
    Add drained cucumbers and onions. Reheat to boiling point; do not boil.
    Put in hot jars and seal.
