Bread And Butter Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    25 to 30 cucumbers
    8 large white onions
    1/2 c. salt
    5 c. vinegar
    5 c. sugar
    2 Tbsp. mustard seed
    2 Tbsp. celery seed
    1 tsp. turmeric
    1/2 tsp. cloves
Preparation
    Wash cucumbers.
    Thinly slice cucumbers and onions.
    Stir salt into cucumbers and onions; let stand for 3 hours.
    Drain.
    Combine vinegar, sugar and spices in a large pan; bring to a boil.
    Add drained cucumbers and onions, but don't boil, just heat thoroughly.
    Put into clean sterilized jars.
    Cool and store.
