French Bread(2 Loaves) - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 pkg. yeast
    1 Tbsp. sugar
    1 Tbsp. shortening, softened
    1 1/2 c. very warm water
    1 1/2 tsp. salt
    4 c. flour, sifted
Preparation
    Sprinkle yeast into 1/2 cup water and stir until dissolved. Dissolve sugar and salt in 1 cup water.
    Add shortening and yeast mixture; mix well.
    Add flour and mix.
    Work through dough with spoon 5 times at 10 minute intervals.
    Turn dough onto lightly floured board and divide in half.
    Shape into 2 balls and let rest for 10 minutes.
    Roll into 12 x 9-inch rectangle.
    Place on baking sheet.
    Score with 6 diagonal marks.
    Cover with towel to raise 1 1/2 hours.
    Bake at 450\u00b0 for 30 to 35 minutes.
