Crispy Onion Rings - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    3 or 4 Spanish-type onions (if onions are small, then use 4)
    3 c. buttermilk or milk
    1 c. all-purpose flour
    2/3 c. water
    1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
    1 tsp. salt
    1 egg, beaten
    1 Tbsp. vegetable oil
    1/4 tsp. cayenne pepper
    oil for frying
Preparation
    Peel and slice onions about 1/3-inch thick; separate into rings.
    Pour buttermilk into large shallow pan.
    Add onion rings and soak for 30 minutes.
    Combine remaining ingredients, except oil for frying, in a bowl and stir until smooth.
    Heat frying oil on medium-high heat.
    Remove onion rings from buttermilk and dip into batter.
    Fry in hot oil until golden brown.
    Drain rings on paper towels.
    Makes 6 to 8 servings.
