Swans Down White Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. sifted flour (plain)
    2 tsp. baking powder
    3/4 tsp. salt
    1/2 c. shortening (Crisco)
    1 c. sugar
    3/4 c. milk
    1 tsp. vanilla
    3 egg whites, beaten with 1/4 c. sugar
Preparation
    Sift flour once.
    Add baking powder and salt.
    Sift.
    Cream shortening. Add sugar.
    Add flour and milk alternately.
    Add vanilla.
    Beat egg whites.
    Add 1/4 cup sugar, fold (do not beat) into batter.
    Makes two 8-inch pans.
    Bake at 375\u00b0 for 25 minutes.
