Cucumber Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    6 qt. sliced cucumbers, 1/8-inch thick
    1 qt. thinly sliced onions
    1 c. salt
    2 qt. cold water
    4 trays ice cubes
    1 Tbsp. turmeric
    1 tsp. celery seed
    1 tsp. white mustard seed
    3 lb. white sugar
    1 c. water
    5 c. vinegar
Preparation
    Soak cucumbers and onions in salt, 2 quarts water and ice cubes for 3 hours.
    Drain well. Thoroughly mix turmeric, celery seed, mustard seed, sugar, 1 cup water and vinegar; heat to boiling.
    Add drained vegetables and bring to full rolling boil. Quickly fill hot sterilized jars making sure vinegar solution covers vegetables and seal each jar at once.
    Makes 10 pints.
