Grandma Markle'S Molasses Cookies - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 pt. baking molasses (Brer Rabbit)
    3/4 c. cold lard
    1/2 c. cold water
    1 Tbsp. soda
    a little alum
Preparation
    Mix all of the ingredients.
    Scald soda and alum together with a little hot water.
    Add flour, enough to thicken, about 3 1/2 cups.
    Brush top with egg, which has been beaten.
    Bake at 350\u00b0.
