Ingredients

1 c. flour
2 tsp. baking powder
3/4 c. white sugar
3/4 c. brown sugar
3/4 c. chopped walnuts, if desired
6 Tbsp. baking cocoa
1/2 c. milk
1 tsp. vanilla
2 Tbsp. shortening, melted
1 3/4 c. hot water
Preparation

Mix together flour, baking powder, white sugar and 2 of the tablespoons
of
cocoa.
Stir
together
milk
and melted shortening.
Add
to
dry mixture.
Add nuts.
Pour into a 9 x 9-inch
greased pan.
Mix together brown sugar and the remaining cocoa
(4
tablespoons).
Sprinkle over batter.
Pour hot water over all.
Bake at 350\u00b0 for 40 minutes.
Batter rises to top
with sauce beneath.
Serve warm with whipped cream, hard sauce or ice cream.
Good cold too.
