Ingredients

1/3 c. butter
1/2 c. sugar
1 egg, beaten
1 3/4 c. flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
3/4 c. milk
1 tsp. vanilla
Preparation

Cream butter and sugar until fluffy.
Add egg, beating until smooth.
Sift flour, baking powder and salt together.
Add to creamed mixture, alternating with milk to which vanilla has been added.
Pour into buttered deep 9-inch round pan.
Cover with crumb topping.
Bake in moderately hot oven (375\u00b0) for 25 to 30 minutes.
Remove and when cold, split and fill with custard filling.
Serves 12.
