Creamed Onions - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    4 or 5 large white onions, peeled
    butter
    salt and pepper
    1/2 pt. light cream
    1/2 pt. heavy cream
    Italian bread crumbs
Preparation
    Slice enough onions in 1/4-inch slices to fill a medium size greased casserole.
    Layer onion slices in casserole.
    Season with salt and pepper to taste and dot generously with butter.
    Pour heavy cream and light cream over top of onions but do not cover. Cover with generous layer of Italian bread crumbs.
    (This can be made a day ahead, up to this point.)
    Place casserole on baking sheet and bake in 300\u00b0 oven for 2 1/2 to 3 hours.
    Onion-lovers will want seconds!
