Ingredients

1/3 c. molasses
1/2 c. sugar
1/3 c. butter
1/3 c. lard
1 egg, beaten
1 Tbsp. cold water
1 Tbsp. vinegar
1 heaping tsp. ginger
1 tsp. cinnamon (optional)
1 tsp. salt
2 tsp. soda
3 c. sifted flour
Preparation

Add soda to molasses and let foam for 5 minutes.
Cream sugar and
shortening with the salt and spices.
Add to molasses\tand soda
mixture.
Add
beaten
egg, water and vinegar. Beat well. Stir in 3 cups flour.
Roll cookies quite thick on a floured board.
Cut with a large cookie cutter.
Score tops with
a
fork and
sprinkle
with sugar and cinnamon mixture. Bake 10 to 12 minutes at 350\u00b0.
