Squirrel Bread - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 stick butter (1/2 c.)
    1 c. chopped nuts
    1 egg
    1 tsp. salt
    1 1/2 c. flour
    1 c. brown sugar
    1 c. sugar
    1 tsp. baking powder
    1 tsp. vanilla
    2 egg whites, whipped dry
Preparation
    Sift together the flour, baking powder, salt and sugar.
    Cut in butter and add 1 egg.
    Mix well.
    Pat mixture into 9 x 12-inch cake pan which has been well greased.
    Press into this 1 cup chopped nuts.
    Beat together the egg whites, brown sugar and vanilla.
    Pour this mixture over the nuts.
    Bake at 350\u00b0 for 45 minutes.
    Cut into small squares before cool.
    These improve with age.
