Southern Hush Puppies - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. cornmeal
    1 c. buttermilk
    2 Tbsp. finely chopped onions
    1 Tbsp. baking powder
    1 Tbsp. baking soda
    1 slightly beaten egg
    2 tsp. salt
    1 Tbsp. all-purpose flour
    salad oil or shortening
Preparation
    Combine dry ingredients. Add buttermilk, egg and onions.
    Stir well. Drop by tablespoons into enough hot oil to cover. Cook only a few at a time. Turn once. Fry until golden brown, 3 to 5 minutes. Drain well on paper towels.
    Makes 2 1/2 dozen. Serve hot.
