German Chocolate Cake - cooking recipe

1 bar German chocolate
2 sticks butter
2 1/2 c. flour
2 c. sugar
4 eggs
1/4 tsp. salt
1 c. buttermilk
1 tsp. soda
1 tsp. vanilla
Preparation

Cream butter and sugar. Add egg yolks (well beaten), buttermilk and soda.
Melt chocolate in 1/2 cup of boiling water.
Add 1/4 teaspoon salt to mixture.
Add flour and beat 3 minutes.
Put in vanilla.
Add egg whites that have been beaten until stiff.
These are added last and are folded in the batter. Bake at 350\u00b0 for 35 minutes.
Spoon into three 9-inch layer pans.
