Ingredients
    2 c. flour (unsifted)
    3 Tbsp. sugar
    2 tsp. salt
    1 pkg. active dry yeast
    1 1/2 c. water
    1/2 c. milk
    3 Tbsp. margarine
Preparation
    In a large bowl, mix the flour, sugar, salt and yeast. Combine water, milk and margarine in a saucepan; heat over low heat until liquids are warm.
    Margarine does not need to melt. Gradually add to dry ingredients and beat 2 minutes at medium speed of electric mixer, scraping bowl occasionally.
    Add 3/4 cup of flour to make a thick batter.
    Beat at high speed 2 minutes, scraping bowl occasionally.
    Stir in enough additional flour to make a stiff dough (about 3 1/2 cups).
    Turn onto floured board and knead until elastic, 8 to 10 minutes.
    Place in greased bowl, turning to grease top.
    Cover; let rise in warm place until doubled in bulk and shape into desired size loaves.
