Marinated Onion Salad - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 medium sweet onions (preferably Vidalia)
    1 c. water
    1/2 c. sugar
    1/4 c. white vinegar
    1 1/2 Tbsp. mayonnaise
    1 tsp. celery seed
Preparation
    Slice onions; separate into rings.
    Combine water, sugar and vinegar; stir until sugar dissolves.
    Pour over onions.
    Cover and chill at least 3 to 4 hours; drain.
    Stir in mayonnaise and celery seed.
    Good served on lettuce leaves.
