Aunt Connie'S Italian Cream Cake - cooking recipe

1 c. butter
2 c. sugar
5 eggs, separated
1 c. coconut
1 c. buttermilk
1/2 c. nuts, chopped
2 c. all purpose flour
1 tsp. ground cloves
1 tsp. ground cinnamon
1 tsp. soda
1 tsp. baking powder
Preparation

In a bowl, sift together the flour, spices, soda, and baking powder.
In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar. Add the egg yolks and coconut; mix well.
Add alternately the flour mixture and buttermilk.
Add vanilla and nuts.
Fold in the stiffly beaten egg whites.
Bake in layers at 350\u00b0 for 25 to 30 minutes.
Cool and frost.
