Sweet Lime Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 gal. cucumbers, sliced
    2 gal. cold water
    3 c. pickling lime
    5 c. sugar
    5 c. vinegar
    2 Tbsp. salt
    1 tsp. pickling spice
    1 tsp. whole cloves
    1 tsp. celery seed
Preparation
    Mix water and lime.
    Pour over cucumbers and soak 24 hours, stirring occasionally. Rinse thoroughly and put fresh water over cucumbers; let soak 3 hours. Rinse thoroughly. Boil solution of the sugar, vinegar, salt, pickling spice, cloves and celery seed. Add cucumbers and bring to a boil again; reduce to simmer and simmer 35 minutes.
    Put into jars and seal.
    Do not soak in aluminum or granite pan.
