Ingredients

1/2 c. butter
1/2 c. Crisco
1/2 c. brown sugar
2 egg yolks
1 tsp. vanilla
2 c. flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 c. chopped nuts (very fine)
2 egg whites
Preparation

Mix thoroughly together the first 5 ingredients.
Add flour and salt to shortening mixture.
Roll into balls the size of walnut.
Slightly beat egg whites until frothy with fork.
Dip balls into egg whites, then roll in finely chopped nuts.
Place 1 inch apart on greased cookie sheet.
Make thumbprint in each cookie.
Bake about 12 to 13 minutes until lightly browned.
Cool. Fill centers with any color or flavor powdered sugar icing. Makes about 60 to 75 small cookies.
Great for showers or weddings.
