Ingredients

1 stick (1/4 lb.) margarine or butter
1/2 c. white sugar
1/2 c. powdered sugar
1 egg
1/2 c. oil
2 1/2 to 2 3/4 c. flour
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. cream of tartar
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. salt
Preparation

Preheat oven to 350\u00b0.
Cream together butter and sugars.
Add egg and oil.
Beat until well mixed.
Sift dry ingredients and add to creamed mixture.
Stir in vanilla.
Refrigerate dough 1 hour. Roll out for cut out cookies or roll into walnut-sized balls and press with the bottom of a glass dipped in sugar.
Sprinkle sugar on top.
Place on lightly greased cookie sheet.
Bake 8 to 10 minutes.
Yields 3 dozen.
