Ingredients

1 1/4 c. firmly packed brown sugar
6 Tbsp. (3/4 stick) margarine
6 Tbsp. Crisco
2 c. dark molasses
1 Tbsp. baking soda
1/4 c. boiling water
6 2/3 c. sifted all-purpose flour
1 Tbsp. ground cloves
2 Tbsp. ground ginger
1 Tbsp. ground cinnamon
Preparation

In a heavy saucepan, combine the brown sugar, margarine, Crisco and molasses.
Heat until brown sugar is dissolved. Dissolve the baking soda in the boiling water and stir into the molasses mixture.
The mixture will bubble up.
Remove from heat.
