Banana Cream Pie - cooking recipe
Ingredients

1 (9-inch) pastry shell, baked
3 c. cold milk
3 eggs, separated
2/3 c. sugar
1/2 c. milk for mixing
3 egg whites for meringue
3 Tbsp. sugar for meringue
2 to 3 bananas
2/3 c. flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
1 Tbsp. margarine or butter
cream of tartar
1 tsp. vanilla for meringue
Preparation

Bring 2 1/2 cups milk to boil.
While heating, mix together the following:
egg yolks, sugar, salt, flour and 1/2 cup milk.
When milk comes to a boil, gradually add egg-sugar mixture with milk at low to medium heat.
Bring to boil and cook for 2 to 3 minutes, until mixture becomes thickened.
Remove from heat, add vanilla and butter.
While chilling, beat egg whites, adding 1 tablespoon ice water and a pea sized amount of cream of tartar to whites.
Beat until stiff.
Be sure egg whites were at room temperature.
Add 3 tablespoons sugar and 1 teaspoon vanilla to stiffened whites. Chill pudding to room temperature.
Place sliced bananas on bottom of crust, then add 1/2 pudding mixture, then second half of pudding over another layer of bananas.
Add meringue on pudding and brown slightly in 400\u00b0 oven.
Chill for several hours before serving. (Can also skip meringue and top with whipped cream and added sliced bananas.)
