Poppy Seed Cake - cooking recipe

1/2 c. poppy seed
1 c. sweet milk
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 c. butter or margarine
1 1/2 c. sugar
1 tsp. soda
2 tsp. baking powder
4 egg whites, beaten separately (save yolks)
2 c. flour
Preparation

Soak poppy seed overnight in milk and vanilla.
Cream butter and sugar together.
Sift flour, baking powder and soda.
Mix poppy seed mixture with sugar and butter mixture.
Next, mix in flour mixture.
Beat 3 minutes.
Beat egg whites until stiff. Fold into other mixture.
Bake at 350\u00b0 for 30 or 40 minutes in two 9-inch cake pans.
