Ingredients

1 c. (2 sticks) butter
1 1/2 c. confectioners sugar
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla
2 1/2 c. all-purpose flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cream of tartar
1/4 tsp. salt
Preparation

Cream butter, gradually add sugar and beat until light and fluffy.
Beat in egg and vanilla.
Mix together flour, baking soda, cream of tartar and salt; gradually add to creamed mixture. Chill dough.
On lightly floured surface, roll dough to 1/8-inch thickness.
With floured cookie cutters, cut into desired shapes. Using spatula, transfer to baking sheet.
Bake 6 to 8 minutes in 400\u00b0 oven.
Decorate, if desired.
