Italian Vegetable Soup - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. thinly sliced green onions
    1 large garlic clove, crushed
    2 Tbsp. butter or margarine
    3 (13 3/4 oz.) cans chicken broth
    1 c. tomatoes, peeled and diced
    1 c. thinly sliced small carrots
    1 c. sliced celery
    1 c. coarsely chopped cabbage
    1/2 to 1 tsp. salt
    1/2 tsp. thyme
    1/2 tsp. basil
    1/8 tsp. pepper
    toasted Italian bread
    grated Parmesan cheese
Preparation
    In large saucepan, saute onions and garlic in butter or margarine for 3 minutes.
    Add chicken broth, tomatoes, carrots, celery, cabbage, salt, thyme, basil and pepper; simmer for 15 minutes.
    Serve in bowls topped with toast and sprinkled with cheese.
    Makes 4 to 6 servings.
