Aunt Patty'S 24 Hour Salad - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 cans pineapple tidbits
    6 egg yolks
    4 Tbsp. sugar
    4 Tbsp. vinegar
    2 Tbsp. butter
    4 cans mandarin oranges
    2 cans pitted sweet cherries
    4 c. miniature marshmallows
    2 c. almonds
    2 c. whipping cream
Preparation
    Drain pineapple, reserving 4 tablespoons syrup.
    In top of a double boiler, beat egg yolks slightly.
    Add the reserved syrup, sugar, vinegar, butter and a dash of salt.
    Place over hot water; cook, stirring constantly, until mixture thickens slightly and barely coats on spoon, about 12 minutes.
    Cool to room temperature.
