Waldorf Astoria Red Velvet Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 tsp. vinegar
    1 tsp. soda
    2 1/4 c. sifted cake flour
    1 tsp. vanilla
    1 c. buttermilk
    1 tsp. salt
    2 Tbsp. cocoa
    2 oz. red food coloring
    2 eggs
    1 1/2 c. sugar
    1/2 c. shortening
Preparation
    Cream shortening, sugar and eggs.
    Make paste of coloring and cocoa and add to mixture.
    Add buttermilk with salt alternately with flour and vanilla.
    Lastly, add soda and vinegar.
    Bake at 350\u00b0 for 30 minutes in three 9 inch pans, greased and lined with wax paper.
    Cool and cut in two crosswise sections and frost with the icing recipe.
