Date Bread - cooking recipe
Ingredients

1 c. whole dates
1 c. water
1 tsp. soda
1/4 c. shortening (1/4 c.=1/2 stick oleo)
1 c. nuts, unchopped
1 c. sugar
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla
2 c. flour
Preparation

Preheat oven to 350\u00b0; grease bread or loaf pan.
Check dates to be sure no kernels in dates; bring dates to boil in water.
Add soda, shortening and nuts.
Cool 5 minutes.
Add sugar, egg and vanilla.
Stir in flour.
Put in bread pan and bake 1 hour.
Serve plain or with softened cream cheese.
