Ingredients

3/4 c. shortening
2 c. brown sugar
3 eggs
3/4 c. dark molasses
2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
1/4 c. sour cream
5 1/2 c. all-purpose flour (about)
2 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. ginger
1 c. sugar
1 c. lard
1 c. molasses
2 c. flour
1 tsp. ginger
2 tsp. soda
1/2 tsp. cloves
1/4 tsp. salt
1 c. cold water
1 to 1 1/2 c. flour
Preparation

Cream the sugar and lard.
Add the molasses; mix.
Add the 2 cups of flour, ginger, soda, cloves and salt alternately with the cold water.
Add up to 1 to 1 1/2 cups more flour (still enough to handle).
Roll in walnut size; dip in sugar.
Bake in moderate oven for 8 to 10 minutes.
