Ingredients

1/2 c. butter or margarine, softened
1 c. packed dark brown sugar
1 egg
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 Tbsp. hot water
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1 3/4 c. all-purpose flour

Preparation

In a mixing bowl, cream butter, brown sugar and egg.
Stir together baking soda and water.
Add to creamed mixture.
Add flour and mix well.
Shape into walnut-sized balls.
