Ingredients

2/3 c. soft shortening (part butter)
1/2 c. granulated sugar
1/2 c. brown sugar, packed
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla
1 1/2 c. Gold Medal flour (for a softer, rounded cookie, add 1/4 c. more)
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 c. chopped nuts
1 (6 oz.) pkg. semi-sweet chocolate pieces (about 1 1/4 c.)
Preparation

Heat oven at 375\u00b0.
Mix shortening, sugars, egg and vanilla thoroughly.
Measure flour by dip-level-pour method or by sifting. Blend dry ingredients; stir in.
Mix in nuts and chocolate pieces.
Drop rounded teaspoonfuls 2 inches apart onto ungreased baking sheet.
Bake 8 to 10 minutes.
Cool slightly before removing from baking sheet.
Makes 4 to 5 dozen 2-inch cookies.
