French Beef Oven Stew - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 1/2 lb. lean boneless beef or top or bottom round, cut in 1-inch chunks
    12 oz. small white onions
    4 large carrots, quartered crosswise
    6 oz. small fresh mushrooms, trimmed
    1 tsp. pepper
    3 large celery stalks, cut in 1-inch pieces
    1 1/2 c. tomato juice
    1/2 c. dry red wine
    1/2 c. tapioca
    1 Tbsp. sugar
    2 tsp. salt
    2 small bay leaves
    1 tsp. dried basil
Preparation
    Heat oven to 300\u00b0.
    Mix all ingredients in a heavy 3-quart ovenproof pan.
    Cover and bake, stirring 3 times, in three hours until meat is tender and sauce is thickened.
    Discard bay leaves before serving.
    Add 2 cups frozen peas.
