Ingredients

3/4 c. shortening
1 c. sugar
1/4 c. molasses
1 egg
2 c. flour
2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. cloves
1/2 tsp. ginger
1 tsp. salt
Preparation

Cream together the shortening and sugar.
Add the molasses and egg.
Beat well and add the remaining ingredients.
Chill; form into 1-inch balls.
Roll in granulated sugar, or just dip in top half.
Place on greased cookie sheet, 2 inches apart.
Bake in preheated 375\u00b0 oven for 8 to 10 minutes.
Makes 4 to 5 dozen.
