Lucille'S Date Chocolate Chip Bars - cooking recipe
Ingredients

1/2 lb. dates, pitted and cut
1 c. boiling water
1 c. sugar
1 3/4 c. flour
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 to 1 c. chopped nuts
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 c. shortening
2 eggs
1 tsp. salt
6 oz. pkg. chocolate chips
Preparation

Pour boiling water over dates.
Add baking soda and let cool. Cream shortening and sugar together.
Add eggs and mix.
Add flour, salt and vanilla and mix.
Add date mixture and mix.
Spread in 10 x 15-inch jelly roll pan.
Cover with 6 ounce package chocolate bits and chopped nuts.
Bake at 350\u00b0 for 25 minutes.
