Potato Cheese Soup - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    5 medium potatoes, peeled
    1 stick butter or margarine (1/2 c.)
    1 can cream of chicken soup
    1 1/2 to 2 c. milk
    2 sticks celery, chopped
    2 carrots, chopped
    1 small onion, chopped
    1 to 2 c. Cheddar cheese, grated
    bacon bits (optional)
Preparation
    Add potatoes, celery, carrots and onion to pot of water.
    Boil until vegetables are soft.
    Drain water; mash potatoes.
    Add butter, chicken soup, milk and salt and pepper to taste.
    Heat. While heating, add cheese.
    Stir frequently.
