Black Walnut Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 1/4 c. chopped walnuts
    3 1/2 c. sifted cake flour
    5 tsp. baking powder
    1 tsp. salt
    1 c. shortening
    1 tsp. almond flavor
    1 tsp. vanilla flavor
    1 1/2 c. sugar
    4 eggs, separated
    1 1/2 c. milk
    1/4 c. sugar
Preparation
    Sift
    the
    flour,
    baking
    powder
    and salt; set aside. Cream together
    the
    fat\tand flavors, gradually add the 1 1/2 cups sugar,
    beat
    until light and fluffy.
    Add the egg yolks. Beat well.
    Add\tthe
    sifted dry ingredients alternately with the milk. Beat
    until
    smooth after each addition ending with flour.
    Beat the
    egg whites until frothy; add 1/4 cup sugar. Make a
    glossy (not dry) meringue. Fold into batter with nuts. Pour in 2 (9-inch) greased and floured pans.
    Bake at 350\u00b0 for 45 minutes.
