Red Velvet Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/2 c. shortening
    1 1/2 c. sugar
    2 eggs
    2 1/4 c. flour
    1 tsp. salt
    1 c. buttermilk
    1 tsp. vanilla
    2 oz. red food color
    2 tsp. cocoa
    1 tsp. baking soda
    1 tsp. vinegar
Preparation
    Cream shortening and sugar.
    Add eggs and vanilla and mix well.
    Mix coloring with cocoa and add to shortening and sugar mixture.
    Sift flour and salt together.
    Add buttermilk and flour in 3 steps, beginning with buttermilk.
    Mix soda and vinegar and add to batter.
    Pour into 2 greased and floured cake pans.
    Bake at 350\u00b0 until done.
    Frost with following frosting.
