Traditional Apple Butter - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    12 to 14 cooking apples, chopped (16 c.)
    2 c. apple cider
    2 c. sugar
    1 tsp. cinnamon
    1/4 tsp. ground cloves
Preparation
    Core and chop apples.
    Combine apples and cider in a slow cooker.
    Cover; cook on low for 10 to 12 hours or until apples are mushy.
    Puree in food mill or sieve.
    Return puree mixture to cooker.
    Add sugar, cinnamon and cloves.
    Cover and cook on low for 1 hour.
    Will keep several weeks in the fridge or pour into hot jars and seal.
    Can also be frozen in freezer containers. Makes 8 cups.
