Ingredients

1 c. soft butter (not margarine)
1/2 c. granulated sugar
1 egg (unbeaten)
3 tsp. vanilla
3 c. sifted flour
1/2 tsp. baking powder
Preparation

Mix butter, sugar and egg thoroughly.
Stir in vanilla.
Sift together and stir in flour and baking powder.
Chill dough.
Roll lightly on floured board.
Cut into shapes (use cookie cutters). Place on ungreased baking sheet.
Bake until delicately browned in hot oven (425\u00b0).
Bake 5 to 7 minutes; watch, the cookies will burn easily.
Yields 6 dozen.
