Ingredients

1 c. sugar
1/3 c. shortening
1 egg
1 c. buttermilk
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. cloves
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1 tsp. soda
pinch of salt
2 c. flour
1/2 c. blackberry or any other kind of jam
Preparation

Cream sugar, shortening and egg together.
Add buttermilk. Sift dry ingredients together and add.
Add jam and mix well. Bake in a greased and floured cake pan, 8 x 8 x 2-inches in a moderate oven (350\u00b0) for 50 minutes or until done.
Or bake in two greased and floured 8-inch layer cake pans in a moderately hot oven of 375\u00b0 for 25 minutes.
Spread with Seafoam Frosting.
