Fried Green Tomatoes - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    4 large firm green tomatoes
    1/2 c. all-purpose flour or cornmeal
    1 tsp. salt
    1/4 tsp. pepper
    shortening
Preparation
    Cut tomatoes in 1/4-inch slices.
    Mix flour or cornmeal with salt and pepper.
    Coat tomatoes with this mixture.
    Place in heavy skillet containing hot shortening.
    Fry slowly until brown, turning once.
    Do not burn.
