Sal'S Pickled Beets - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. sugar
    2 level tsp. cornstarch
    1 c. white vinegar
    24 whole cloves
    3 Tbsp. ketchup
    3 Tbsp. cooking oil
    dash of salt
    1 tsp. vanilla
    3 small cans whole beets, quartered
    1 1/2 c. beet juice
Preparation
    Using large shallow pan, mix sugar and cornstarch well.
    Add vinegar, cloves, ketchup, oil, salt and vanilla and mix well.
    Add beets and beet juice.
    Preheat burner.
