Squash Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    4 qt. thinly sliced squash
    5 onions
    1/4 c. salt
    5 c. sugar
    3 c. vinegar
    1 1/2 tsp. mustard seed
    1 1/2 tsp. turmeric
    1 1/2 tsp. celery seed
Preparation
    Prepare squash, onions and salt and cover with ice for 3 hours.
    Heat the sugar, vinegar, mustard seed, turmeric and celery seed, then add squash and onions.
    Bring to a boil, put in jars and seal.
