Corned Beef And Cabbage - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    4 lb. corned beef brisket
    1 1/2 oz. dry onion soup mix
    4 peppercorns
    3 or 4 cloves garlic, minced
    1 bay leaf
    3 c. water
    6 medium potatoes, pared and quartered
    6 medium carrots, pared and cut in 1 1/2-inch pieces
    1/2 c. celery, cut in 1-inch pieces
    1 medium head cabbage, cut in wedges
Preparation
    Put meat into a deep saucepot or Dutch oven.
    Add soup mix, peppercorns, garlic, bay leaf and water.
    Cover; bring to boiling and simmer 3 1/2 hours.
    Add vegetables, placing cabbage on top of meat.
    Cover and cook 1 hour, or until tender.
