enough dried garden beans to equal 1 lb., shelled out*
2 carrots
2 celery stalks
2 small onions
2 cloves garlic
2 small whole red peppers
1 qt. tomatoes or 4 to 5 fresh tomatoes
1/2 tsp. basil
ham bone or 3 strips lean-chopped bacon (to season)
