Grandma Desmet Bread - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. milk
    1 c. sugar
    3 tsp. salt
    1 stick butter/margarine, softened
    1 c. warm water
    4 pkg. yeast
    4 eggs, beaten
    8 1/2 to 9 c. flour
Preparation
    Scald milk.
    Stir in sugar, salt and butter; put aside. Measure water into bowl.
    Add yeast.
    Stir.
    Stir into milk mixture.
    Add eggs.
    Add 1/2 of the flour.
    Beat until smooth. Stir in the rest of the flour.
    Knead 8 to 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
    Place dough in large greased bowl.
    Let rise until double in size.
    Punch down and shape into 4 small loaves, 2 large loaves or 2 large braids.
    Let rise again.
    Bake at 350\u00b0 for 30 minutes for small loaves or 375\u00b0 for 25 minutes for large loaves.
