Ruth'S Famous Eggnog - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/2 c. sugar
    4 egg yolks
    1/4 tsp. salt
    3 c. whole milk, scalded
    1/2 to 2/3 c. whipped cream, if desired
    1/2 tsp. salt
    4 egg whites
    1/4 c. sugar
    1/2 tsp. vanilla
Preparation
    Beat egg yolks slightly.
    Add sugar and salt.
    Stir in scalded milk slowly.
    Cook in double boiler until mixture coats spoon. Cool.
    Add salt to egg whites; beat stiff.
    Add sugar and vanilla. Fold into custard mixture, then add whipped cream (optional).
