South Carolina Cornbread - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 1/2 c. cornmeal (yellow)
    dash of sugar (if you prefer \"Yankee\" cornbread)
    1/2 tsp. soda
    1 1/2 tsp. salt
    1 tsp. baking powder
    2 eggs, slightly beaten
    1 1/4 c. buttermilk
    2 Tbsp. melted shortening
Preparation
    Mix dry ingredients.
    Beat eggs with buttermilk and shortening.
    Add to dry ingredients and mix well.
    Heat a 9-inch cast-iron skillet (put a little oil in skillet) in a 450\u00b0 oven. Pour mix in skillet and bake for 12 to 15 minutes.
    Take out and turn cornbread over and bake another 12 to 15 minutes.
