Hush Puppies - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 1/2 c. corn meal
    1 1/2 c. water
    1/3 c. milk
    1 Tbsp. vegetable oil
    2 tsp. grated onion
    2 eggs, beaten
    1 c. sifted all-purpose flour
    3 tsp. baking powder
    2 tsp. salt
    1 tsp. sugar
Preparation
    Over medium heat, cook corn meal and water, stirring until the batter becomes stiff and begins to roll into a ball (about 6 minutes).
    Remove from heat and stir in the milk, oil and onion. Gradually stir batter into eggs in a large bowl.
    Stir flour, baking powder, salt and sugar together and blend into corn meal batter.
    Drop batter by teaspoonfuls into deep hot oil.
    Fry until golden brown, about 6 to 7 minutes.
    Drain on paper towels.
    Makes 30 to 40 hush puppies.
