Caramel Apple Cookies - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. sugar
    1/2 c. margarine
    1/2 c. shortening
    1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
    2 eggs
    3 c. flour
    1/2 tsp. baking soda
    1/2 tsp. salt
    24 wooden sticks
    red food coloring
    1 (14 oz.) pkg. caramels
    1/4 c. water
Preparation
    Combine cookie ingredients in their order in a large bowl. Roll dough 1/4-inch thick and cut apple shapes.
    Place on ungreased cookie sheet and insert wooden stick in each apple. Bake 8 to 9 minutes until slightly brown.
    Cool about 2 minutes and remove, cooling completely.
    Spread top of each cookie with glaze allowing it to drizzle down slightly.
